Default couple questions before purchase.

I am hoping that this product can help. I have an external USB drive that somehow was repartitioned and reformatted without my consent. It shows up in the operating system as drive F: but it shows as empty. PLEASE HELP!! It has not been written to since this was done. The repartition/reformat was done with the Western digital data lifeguard tool. I need all the information off of my external hard drive. Is this recoverable?

Please advise. I really need the info.

Default Data Recovery

The only reason this data would be lost is if it has been overwritten by new data. In your case it sounds like you should get everything back.

Dwonload Recover My Files from http://www.recovermyfiles.com and run a Format Recover. Use the default file selection (5 file types only and do not select txt or mp3 file types as they will slow the search down) and at the end of the search you should get your entire partition.

After this you may also run a "Complete Search" for individual file types. This uses a different data recovery technique so it is worth also giving it a go.

Default Recover My Files Demo Version

By the way, you should be able to tell from the demo version if the data recovery has worked - you will get a preview of the files on your deleted partition.

Thanks for the information. I have downloaded the software and have run it. I see information showing up but everything is marked with file names I do not recognized..... example.. RECOVERED_WORD_1 ... when I restore this, will it restore with the original name or do I need to go thru and rename EVERY file that the software restores?

Also, maybe I am not doing something right... I cannot see the directory structure as it existed before the reformat. I see the files etc under File Type View tab and then search results for the various file types.... but no idea what directory they use to belong to .

Thanks.

Default Data Recovery

In the results screen switch to "Folder View" (top of top left window). Do you see your entrie partition with full file and folder names? Also, if you see anyting called "Recovered Partition 1" click on it and see what is inside it - again you should find your entrie partition with full file and folder names.

Do you know if the drive was FAT or NTFS?
