I have recovered an old hard drive doing both a Complete File Search and a Complete Format Recovery and in the details have noticed something odd with the file timestamps in both cases.
How accurate is the "date created " data? Just when I thought I could trust it I noticed that often the "date modified" is earlier in time than the "date created". Usually, they are the same date but the time is several hours earlier. Thank you for your help. |

The dates and times in Recover My Files are derived directly from the information held by Microsoft Winodws. Thus, the dates and times on a computer can be considered very unreliable.
There are many things that can give you strange dates and times. For example, it is possible that your files were copied from one location to another before being deleted. The created date is the date created in the current location. Thus a file which is copied from one spot to another can have a date modified that is earlier than the date created. (you can run some quick tests and quickly get the same results). Sound confusing - belive me the further you look into date and time anomolies on Windows the worse it gets.
