problem...plz help...

seems all my files are coming back...but they've all been given the wrong names...

How were your files lost? What type of search did you run?

I did a quick format...they were mostly avi, mpg, and mp3 files...

It may be that your Master File Table records are corrupt (the MFT is the table at the start of the disk that tells the computer the location of each file). Please try running a "Complete Format Recover" for the default selected file types (dont add MP3 and MPG files to the search as it will just slow it down).

that's what most of the files I lost are...mp3 and mpg...

Just run the search for the default selected files, but also add .avi files to the search.

I've done all that...these files are still coming back, but none of the names are correct...ie...if I click on a Beatles file...Dire Straits plays...???...any suggestions...???

Please try a "Complete File Search". This will find files by their header and footer so they should be valid, but will not bring back the original file name. There are a number of programs to help you rename files found this way, such as Mass Renamer on our website, or www.123renamer.com.

I did a complete file search...what good is the software if I have to relabel 10,000 files...???

Sometimes the file names are destroyed and cannot be recovered. Only the file content can be recovered (usually the most important thing).

There are a number of automated tools available to help rename files.
