Desktop files and folders disappeared!!!

After minimizing a window to open a file on the desktop, I suddenly find that ALL files and folders on my desktop disappeared. I restarted and searched and checked everywhere, but was fully disappeared...not even in the recycle bin!!!! Do you know the reason this has happened? Is it a worm/bug/virus?

After using recovermyfile, I can only find some of the documents. Some large folders with very important data are not there!!! Please help!!! How can I locate all those files through your software?

First, check that the files/folders are actually missing. Some viruses just rename the folders or move them to hidden locations on your PC.

Use Recover My Files to run a "Complete File Search". In the drive selection window click on "add folder to the search" and add your C: drive as a folder. Put a tick next to this folder and then search the drive for specific file types, such as .doc.

This search will include a search for files by their header and footer. Switch to "Folder View" in the results screen to see the actual folder location of the files found.
