I have a 100GB USB drive that I can no longer access data from. The drive is not recognised by windows explorer as being there, even though the device appears to be working properly in Device Manager.
I have tried downloading various data recovery software packages (free demos) to see if I can regain access to the drive or recover files from it. They do not appear to recognise the drive either. None have been successful. Any ideas?? |

Download and run Recover My Files from www.recovermyfiles.com.
Run the program and select "Fast Format Recover" in the first wizard window. Click Next. In the next wizard window, can you see the "physical drive"? (your booting drive is physical drive 0. Additional drives are physical drive 1, 2, 3 etc.).

Check to see if you can hear if the drive is spinning (i.e. whether it is getting power).
Next, you may want to try and connect it to your PC without the USB enclosure to make sure that is not the problem. You need to get Windows to recognize that it has a physical drive connected.

When you run Recover My Files is the USB drive displayed in the drive selection window as a physical drive?
