I have a drive here, it was being used to run a Emachines XP box that was about 2.5 years old. I'm not sure what it was formatted as previously. I gathered what I thought was all the data off of the drive and copied it onto my drive. I then formatted it NTFS.
Then I find out that during the copying, a few key files didn't make it for some reason... I downloaded your beta version you just put out, and its results are less than heartwarming. I ran the format recover, on the physical drive, and here is what I came up with: Recovered FAT Partition: contains some system files, nothing of particular interest. Recovered NTFS Partition: A lot of files, seems they all have original names, looks like everything from the old drive Search Results: Excel files, jpegs, word documents....why don't these have the original names? The files I didn't care about got their orignal names back, but the ones I was looking for get recovered file name... what is going on here? If the preview shows the file, is it 100% that the file is complete, and once restored will work with whatever program it is meant to work with? |

Sorry, I missed this thread...
You said: Recovered FAT Partition: contains some system files, nothing of particular interest. I think your old drive was NTFS. You may have had a small FAT32 partition on it (some drives have them by default), which would explain these results. You said: "Recovered NTFS Partition: A lot of files, seems they all have original names, looks like everything from the old drive". If you can preview the content of the files, yes it is 100% that you can recover them. I would call this is "heartwarming". You said: Search Results: Excel files, jpegs, word documents....why don't these have the original names? The files I didn't care about got their orignal names back, but the ones I was looking for get recovered file name... what is going on here?. When you search for specific file types they are shown under the "Search Resutls" heading. The program finds files by their file structure (unique header, footer etc.). It uses these files to rebuild the entire partiton, which is displayed under "Folder View" in the results screen.
