Unhappy Nearly all jpegs 5120kb???

Hi, I just downloaded your demo Recover My Files app, and it is in the course of doing a format recovery scan. While it does seem to be picking up many of my files (many jpegs from my digital camera), i am curious as to the file size. It appears that all jpegs over about 60kb get shown in the grid as size 5120kb (5MB right?), literally 100's if not more have this size. I am pretty sure that none of them were 5MB, and i'm definitely sure that not all jpegs on my computer over 60kb are 5120kb (even larger jpegs not taken from my camera).

My question: What happens when i pay for your software and recover the files, are all of them going to be 5MB big? Why is it showing all the files as identical size and 5MB at that?

Thanks!!

Default JPEG Size

Ok - this is a bit complicated, so here goes...

The first part of the Format Recovery scan is a search for "Lost Files". A Lost File is found by identifying a unique file structure. A JPEG file has a specific header, so we find the header of a JPEG on the disk, do some more checks to make sure its a JPEG, and then recover the JPEG file. One of those checks was to determine the exact JPEG file size. We can work this out exactly, but found that it took a lot of processing and because people usually have 1000's of JPEG's on their PC, could slow down the entire search quite a lot. So, until we find a better solution, what we do now is find a JPEG file, validate it, and make the default file size 5mb. The JPEG is still fine, it is just 5MB in size.

5MB in size i hear you say! I dont want that!! - Well dont worry, because there is more...

The first part of a Format Recover search is to find "Lost Files". The second part is to identify and rebuild partition records. Once these partition records are rebuilt (this happens at the end of a Format Recover) we use the partition information to point directly to the file and can work out its exact size with no overheads. So, at the end of a Format Recover search, in the Folder View, you should find your JPEG files with full file name, folder structure and correct size.

If you partition cannot be recovered.... Then what you need to do is to run a Complete Search just for JPEG files. Click on the OPTIONS button then the SEARCH tab. Set the default size to 1MB. Your recovered JPEGS will now be 1MB - not a perfect solution, but better that 5MB.

We are currently working on a solution to find the exact JPEG files size whilst maintaining search speed. Please click the Update button regularly to get updates.
