Saving files?

I found my files and obviously I couldnt save them in the same drive so I saved them to my HP Recovery drive and then sent them back to their original drive. By sending them back doesnt that just add on to the memory? I had lost all of my data files but yet my memory had stayed the same and I'm using like half of my 160 gb so if i sent the files to another drive and then sent them back.. wont i waste more memory??
