Default What's the right order?

I discovered Recover My Files last night. It took 6 hours to search for and locate my lost files. I was excited to see some that I recognize and was looking for. But, I had no 2ndary external hard drive, so I purchased one today. I came home and discovered that I needed to restart my computer after installing the new drive.

But, if I close the Recover software, I will need to start the 6 hour scan again. Is there another way? I am prepared to purchase the software but very reluctant to wait 6 hours for a new scan. Is there a way around this snag? please help!

Another question: do I need to purchase the CD or can I create a CD from the download?

If you reboot your computer then the search results will be lost and you will have to run the scan again. (When we release version 4 of Recover My Files in December 06 you will have the option to save search results).

Probably the only way to avoid this is to connect the second drive using a USB case.

You can make your own CD if you wish. There are instructions located here: http://www.recovermyfiles.com/data-recovery-cd.php

Default Another Question

What do you mean when you say to connect the second drive using a USB case? I am really a novice (sorry).

So, purchasing the software will not allow me to save the first 6-hour search? WOW!!!

Thanks for your responses.

A USB connection allows you to plug devices into your PC without needing to reboot (if you are running Windows XP). You can get an external USB case for a hard drive.

When you enter the product activation key into the program it will allow you to save the search results. This is the only difference between running in evalutation mode v's activated mode.

The Recover My Files search results are held in Memory of the computer. When the program is closed, the search results are lost and you will need to run the scan again.

Question How Long?

Yesterday I contacted you with a concern about needing to reboot my computer with the new external hard drive that I purchased. Well, before I saw your reply I had already done the reboot. It took 6 hours to complete the first scan. But it is still running since yesterday --- more than 21 hours now! Why would it take 6 hours the first time and 21 hours now? I need to complete this today --- is there any hope?

Do you have any idea why there would be such a hugh disparity in the amount of time that it takes?

What type of search are you currently running? What file types do you have selected?

It's a file search for Word, Excel, Publi**** and Outlook; the same as yesterday.

Check to see what file types you have selected. Whilst the search is in progress click on the OPTIONS button and look under the File Types Tab. Make sure you dont have any multimedia file types selected.

Did you change from searching the logical drive to the physical drive?

Does this drive have bad sectors?

Do you have the drive connected on the same cable, or separate cables as the other drive?
