I had a power outage and computer would only show 'install disc to boot' - so after many tests to boot but no luck I bought and installed a new hard drive and have installed XP Pro but put original hard drive in as a 2nd drive to see if I could recover anything. I downloaded demo of 'RMF' - and tried to run 'quick' - as the software did show the hard drive as a 'logical drive' (I think that is the one type with no drive letter as all other attempts have not even shown that there was a second drive) - but it said 'no files found'. I tried the Advanced and it ran for many hours and said 'no files found'- but I think that is not the final word. I just do not know what way to try to go next. Do I need to do something to get a partition for it to see or what other thing to try.

Download the latest version of Recover My Files from www.recovermyfiles.com
When you run Recover My Files, I suggest you first try a "Fast Format Recover". In the drive selection window, if you do not see a drive letter, you should see a "physical drive" listed. You can tell which one the problem drive is by the size. It is most likely "physical drive 1" as "physical drive 0" is usually your booting drive. Run the search on this drive. If this search does not work, next try a "Complete Format Recover" of the physical drive searching for the default selected file types only. If you do not find any files after both these searches then it is likely that you drive has a physical error an is not being accessed.
